For decades the name Pavel has been synonymous
with some of the most innovative magic ever invented. Pavel has mystified and
entertained lay audiences the world over with his inspired magical inventions
while at the same time, delighting and exciting magicians at his thousands of
lectures all around the globe with the diabolical secrets of his magic. Pavel's
magic has taken him around the world, from the most prestigious venues to the
set of TV's legendary Ed Sullivan show...and now he's sharing his award-winning
magic, and the ingenious thinking that makes it all work, with
you!
Volume One - Magnetic Tricks
A magnet is a wonderful tool
in the hands of an inventive magician. Pavel's ability to exploit this principle
in various objects where the use of magnets would be totally unexpected is
amazing. This volume contains a number of tricks all based on the use of strong
magnets. Most of them are easy to build and easy to do, all are deceptive and
commercial.
-
MAGIC WAND FROM PURSE – Production of a
solid regular magic wand from a small purse. The wand is handed out for
examination.
-
NEW ROSE TO SILK – A red rose worn on the
performer’s lapel changes instantly to a silk as a wand is waved. This is
Pavel’s ultimate solution to the classic effect.
-
MISMADE RISING WAND – The examined wand
breaks into two parts when tapped. The two halves are dropped into an empty
bottle. Suddenly a restored wand magically rises from the bottle but has the
white tips misplaced. The wand is broken and dropped into the bottle again.
Finally, the wand is correctly repaired.
-
SWALLOW-A-SILK – The performer tucks a red
silk in his mouth, letting a corner protrude. The performer then drinks some
liquid and seemingly swallows the silk. This may be the most curious way to
vanish a silk.
-
ROPE THROUGH NECK and MIRACLE SILK PASS –
The performer places a length of rope over his head. As he pulls on the ends,
the rope passes visibly through his neck. Simultaneously, the previously
swallowed red silk appears attached to the rope.
-
ROPE THROUGH BODY & COMEDY SHORTS –
First, a length of rope visibly penetrates the magician’s neck. Then, in the
same mysterious way, the rope passes through his body. Finally, the rope
penetrates his waist again. Simultaneously, fancy shorts appear attached to the
center of the rope.
-
CARD IN THE AIR (Revisited) – A freely
chosen card from a pack of ten cards vanishes when hit against an inflated
balloon. Shaking the balloon, something is heard inside it. A long needle is
thrust into the balloon and as it pops, the chosen card is seen stuck to the
center of the needle. This is Pavel’s ultimate version of a similar effect
featured on his Cabaret Potpourri Vol. 3. The new method is superior.
-
UTILITY MAGNET HOLDER Explanations –
Practical ideas and tips for use of a strong magnet attached to the magician’s
body. Pavel shows you how to vanish, produce and transform a variety of common
objects like coins, scissors, lighters, salt shakers, balls, rings, spoons or
even a bottle, instantly and cleanly.
-
JUMPING SILKS ON ROPE – Three silks, two
blues and one red, are tied equally spaced in a length of rope. The silks
visibly change their position in the rope. Thus, the red silk is seen to jump
several times from the bottom to the top and vice versa. In the end, the red
silk appears in the middle of the rope. A cute effect for kid shows.
-
JUMPING BANGLE – Similar in concept to the
preceding routine, a borrowed bracelet tied at the lower end of a length of red
rope jumps from the bottom to the middle and finally to the top of the rope. A
great item for a table-hopping magician.
-
KWIK KOLOR KNOT – A genuine knot is tied
in the middle of a yellow rope. A handful of confetti is thrown over the rope.
The knot visibly changes to red! It looks like a miracle. The knot is untied to
show that it is part of the rope. Pavel’s thinking here is particularly
inventive.
-
PINS ON A LINE – Five different colored
clothespins are placed into an empty paper bag. A spectator names a color. A
length of rope is lowered inside the bag like a fishing line. Shortly, a pin
“bites” but the color is wrong. On the second attempt, the pin matching the
spectator’s choice appears attached to the rope end.
-
THE CUT AND RESTORED ROPE – Explanations – Basic
handling of a length of rope fitted with a magnetic joint. Pavel reveals how to
cut the rope and demonstrates how to restore the two rope pieces in a most
spectacular way.
Volume Two - Magnetic
Tricks
This volume continues a seemingly endless supply of Pavel's ideas
connected with magnets. besides some additional rope effects, it features more
effects with silks, cards and coins. It also gives general information on the
Magnet Assortment, complet with a detailed explanation on how to attache magnets
to ropes and silks.
-
FLASH ROPE RESTORATION – The performer
begins by holding a length of rope with an end in each hand. Suddenly, the ends
of the rope knot automatically thus forming a large loop. The loop is sectioned
in the center. Now the knot is untied and—presto!—in a flash, the two pieces
turn visibly into a continuous length. A spectator is allowed to pull on it.
This trick will fool even magicians!
-
PERFECT LOOP PENETRATION & LINKING
RINGS CLIMAX – This routine uses the same rope loop as above. Three large flat
cardboard rings are handed out for examination. The rings penetrate magically
one by one onto the loop. Then, in the same way, the rings are released from the
rope, all at the same time. Finally, the three rings link. This is surprising
and totally unexpected finish!
-
SLICK ROPE SEQUENCE – A length of rope is
cut into two pieces: short and long. First, the pieces visibly equalize. Then
the ropes are knotted into two separate loops. In a logical sequel, the loops
link. To finish, the knots are untied. In the process, the loops turn
automatically back into a continuous length of rope. Straight and clean!
-
BAFFLING ROPE RESTORATION – A spectator is
invited to examine a length of rope and is asked to cut it at any position he
wishes. The two rope pieces are placed into an ordinary empty paper bag. The bag
is blown up and burst. When the rope is pulled away from the crumpled paper, it
is seen to be one piece! This trick uses a totally original method and is a
fooler.
-
MODERN SILK TYING – Explanations – As an
introduction to “silk” magnets, Pavel performs the Ultimate 20th Century Silks
using a chair servante and a novel version of his original Crystal Tube (alias
Silk-Blow-Tie). The explanations also include Pavel’s personal handling of a
handy device that will enable you to vanish a silk in a very clean way.
-
MAGNETIC TIP WAND – Pavel introduces a new
prop in magic, a wand fitted with a ”rope” magnet. He demonstrates two ways to
use it. A vanished silk appears mysteriously attached to the tip of a wand. The
use of a Sleeve Pull Vanisher completes the explanation. An anti-gravity effect
occurs when the wand, laid at the edge of a table, remains suspended in the air.
-
UNIQUE COIN IN BALLOON – A clear balloon
is inflated and held in one hand while a large coin is picked up with the other.
The performer taps the coin against the balloon and it penetrates the balloon
visibly. The balloon with the coin is handed out for examination. The subtlety
of the method will please you.
-
CABARET RISING CARD – A spectator is given
a deck of cards and is asked to freely select any card, show it to the others
present, place the card into the deck and finally, return the cards to the case.
After this is done, the performer takes the case and opens it. The spectator’s
chosen card slowly rises out of it!
-
GREEN ROPE MYSTERY – The magician knots a length
of green rope into a loop, which he places over his head. Then the magician
picks up a yellow rope and ties a firm knot in the center. He places the rope
behind his neck to join the green loop and brings both ropes in front. When the
ropes are pulled apart, it is seen that the yellow knot has jumped onto the
green loop. The knot is untied to reveal that the green loop has a yellow
section in the center. Classic Pavel!
Volume Three - Mental
Special
Although Pavel was not born a mentalist, his creations in this
field are captivating. This volume contains tricks a kind not found on any
other, Pavel's use of colorful props in such cunning ways leave even the experts
dumbfounded.
-
SUCKER RIBBON PREDICTION – The performer
tosses an inflated balloon into the audience to choose an assistant and then
shows a board with four different colored ribbons. The assistant is asked to
think of a color. The performer writes a prediction on the back of the board.
The spectator reveals the color (say blue.) The prediction is shown and it says,
“RIGHT!” This produces laughs. However, when the balloon is burst, a blue ribbon
is found inside.
-
COLOR BET REPEAT – Two cardboard strips
divided vertically into three sections (1-2-3 and 4-5-6) are displayed. The
performer tells the audience that the strips have red and blue sections on the
back. He offers money if a spectator can divine the positions of the colored
sections. According to the person’s indications, colored clothespins are clipped
at the designated numbers. The strips are turned over but none of the sections
bears the pins of matching colors. The performer wins again!
-
TEST-A-COLOR – A spectator selects a
prediction among five envelopes numbered 1 to 5. Five different colored balls
are dropped into an opaque tissue bag. The spectator is asked to draw out any
ball (say yellow.) When the envelope is opened, it contains a card that says,
“The chosen ball will be YELLOW.” The method is novel and allows for other
applications.
-
SUCKER CARD REVELATION – A spectator picks
the Nine of Hearts from a deck. The performer unfolds a large sheet of paper as
a prediction but it reveals the Ten of Hearts. The performer tears the paper to
pieces, but a piece falls onto the floor. When the performer reopens the
crumpled paper, the card is seen to be restored – but now has nine hearts!
-
X-CARD EXPERIMENT – A volunteer plays the
part of a magician. He’s given a small pack of blank cards. One is marked with a
large X. The performer instructs the spectator to shuffle the cards and then to
cut the pack into three piles. These are placed into empty glasses on the table.
The spectator is supposed to find the X-card. He indicates which cards are to be
eliminated. The card, which is left, is actually the X-card!
-
TRIPLE PIN COINCIDENCE – Performer asks a
spectator to attach three different colored clothespins to a length of rope in
any order he wishes (say red-yellow-blue.) This done, the performer produces
another length of rope from a small basket. Three pins are seen attached to the
rope and surprisingly, the sequence of colors matches!
-
RING RAPPORT – Four flat plastic rings of
different colors are each placed into a small black clear-fronted wallet. A
spectator is invited to choose one wallet. A sealed envelope with a prediction
is cut open and a blue ring is tipped out. The ring removed from the chosen
wallet is blue, too! The effect is immediately repeated and the rings are of the
same color again!
-
THREE CARD HARMONY – Three decks of cards
are used and two spectators participate. Each chooses a deck and picks a small
portion of the cards. As the cards are dealt onto the table, the spectators are
asked to remember cards corresponding to the number of cards they have taken and
then to remove them from the decks. When the cards are compared, they are both
identical. To finish, the last deck is spread out. One card is seen reversed and
it matches the spectators’ choice.
-
MAGIC SQUARE COMBINATION (Numbers &
Letters) – Among sixteen cards with different numbers laid face down in a
square, a spectator selects four cards at random. The prediction matches the
grand total of the selected numbers. In a similar way, a spectator is invited to
select four letters and to form a word. The choice being D, A, H, N, it is easy
to figure out HAND. The prediction shows the picture of a hand.
-
ILLUSIVE DIE MATCH – Twelve squared cards show
spots from 1 to 6, like faces of a die. Six are red and six are black. The
performer inserts two red-spotted cards face-down into a clear plastic strip. A
spectator throws a regular die twice to indicate two numbers. The corresponding
black-spotted cards are inserted into the strip next to the red cards. When the
strip is turned over, it is seen that the spots on both cards apparently
match.
Volume Four - At the
Table
Volume four contains the secrets, many revealed here for the first
time, to some of Pavel's favorite close-up effects. These tricks can best be
characterized with the following two words: deceptive and easy. In fact, most of
the routines require very little sleight of hand and will suit any magician's
level of skill. Everyone will surely find something they like on this
volume.
-
SPOTTED CARD CLIMAX – Two cards are freely
chosen and vanish. After many unproductive attempts to find the vanished cards,
the performer gives up and performs a trick with paddles. Dots appear, multiply
and jump from one paddle onto another and finally disappear. The spectator is
asked to name his card (which actually returned to the deck.) Amazingly, the
dots from the paddles are found attached to the back of this card. As the
performer turns around, the second chosen card is seen pinned to his back.
-
IMPOSSIBLE RISING CARD – A spectator picks
a card (free choice), signs the face with a marker, returns the card to the
deck, shuffles the cards and places the deck into the card case. The performer
takes the marker and waves it above the case. As if by magic, the signed card
rises out of the case. This is a further development of the Cabaret Rising Card
featured on Magnetic Tricks Video Volume 2.
-
SIGHT AT FINGERTIPS - A clear box full of
pins with different colored heads is thoroughly shaken. The magician places the
box behind his back and as the spectators call out colors, the magician produces
the corresponding pins. In a similar way, when the pins are dropped into an
opaque tissue bag, the magician infallibly detects the head pins of the named
colors. Sight at Fingertips features two different methods - both are unique.
-
THE ULTIMATE LAST CARD - A card is
selected and returned to the deck. The cards are dealt face-down into six equal
piles in a row. A regular die is cast at random. The pile corresponding to the
number thrown on the die is kept; the other five piles are eliminated. The die
is thrown once more to determine a card from the remaining six. The last card
happens to be the selected card!
-
INSEPARABLE MATCH-HEADS - The theme may
look familiar but the props and the routine are different. The effect is that a
tiny match head is placed into a closed fist while another match head is
pocketed. When the fist is opened, both match heads happen to be together. This
is repeated several times. In the end, the match heads unexpectedly vanish from
the hand. This little trick using impromptu props can be performed anywhere
anytime.
-
CHAMELEON KNOTS IN SHOELACE – A two-tone
shoelace, half white and half red, is displayed. A knot is tied in each half. By
passing the fingers along the shoelace, the knots change colors. Now, the knot
in the white half is red and the knot in the red half is white! Another stroke
and the knots turn to their original colors. They are untied and the shoelace is
handed out for examination.
-
RING TRANSPOSITIONS - Three red and three
blue rings (shown both sides) travel successively from one hand into the other.
First, two rings then four rings and finally all six rings change places. The
rings are then clipped onto a piece of string in this order: red, red, red,
blue, blue, blue. A shake of the string and the rings are now in alternating
sequence.
-
(IN)VISIBLE CARD IN CASE – The magician
mimes dealing cards from an “invisible” deck. Each card is called by the name
and a spectator is invited to say stop. The indicated card (the Queen of Hearts,
say) is placed into an” invisible” empty card case which is put (still
invisible) into the magician’s pocket. A second later, the magician removes a
materialized (visible) card case from the pocket. The Queen of Hearts is found
inside.
-
CARDEATER – The performer introduces
Engelbert, a tiny green turtle pictured on a blank-faced card. Actually,
Engelbert is a fearsome cardeater. By a simple stroke, he erases a playing card,
turning it blank on both sides. After having “eaten” four cards selected by the
spectators, Engelbert is seen to have grown up. The turtle has become big and
fat.
-
TRANSPARENCY - A blank card (shown both sides)
is sandwiched between two clear plastic plates and secured with rubber bands.
Another card, selected from a complete deck (say the Five of Diamonds) is pushed
against the plates. When this card is turned over, it is seen to be blank.
Simultaneously, the card imprisoned between the plates has changed to the Five
of Diamonds. Everything can be examined.
